Walking and mountain biking in the Gitschberg Jochtal area

Pure Alpine bliss

It’s easy to live the perfect walking or cycling holiday, here in Meransen. Nature beckons in the early morning sunshine. The mossy scent of the forest, the invigorating mountain air, the carpet of flowers on the Alpine meadows… and the view of the Dolomites. So impressive, with their cragged peaks and soul-stirring power. Biohotel Gitschberg is an excellent starting point for any outdoor pursuit. Only 300 metres away there’s a cable car that takes you to lofty heights – unless you prefer to climb all the way up there, which is also an option. With everything from leisurely strolls and idyllic hikes across pastures, and from thrilling bike tours to adventurous summit climbs, you’re in for a real treat.

Recommended activities in the Gitschberg Jochtal area - our personal favourites

Mt. Gitschberg

Our “backyard mountain”, the one our hotel is named after, offers one of the best vantage points in South Tyrol. The panoramic platform at the summit cross (2,510 metres) affords a sensational free view of over 500 mountain peaks.

Romantic Altfasstal valley

A place where time stands still and nature draws closer. Where wanderlust and Alpine roses soothe the heart. And mountain water refreshes the senses. The charming Altfasstal valley is a real highlight for leisure hikers, nature lovers and even hydrotherapy enthusiasts.

Fane Alm

The most scenic Alpine village of all South Tyrol spreads out at the end of the Vals valley, with 35 picturesque, listed huts and barns. The perfect starting point – and destination – for many rewarding hikes of varying difficulty.

Sparkling lakes

Crystal-clear, deep green water sparkling in the sun, surrounded by a crown of majestic peaks and pure natural beauty. Seefeldsee, Marbelsee, Wilder See, Eisbruggsee, Grindlbergsee... there are many Alpine lakes in our area that look like pictures from a fairy tale book.

Rodenecker-Lüsner Alp

A sunny plateau, a legendary backdrop to give your mountain passion free rein. Vast, verdant meadows, stone pine forests and the Dolomites rising proud against the sky set the perfect scene for an immersion into tranquillity away from the daily rat race.

The mills and earth pyramids in Terenten

Take a delightful walk along the sunny loop trail to the seven historical mills on the Terner stream, and marvel at an extraordinary spectacle: the earth pyramids, a natural wonder over 200 years old.

Walking with Konrad

Gitschberg's discovery hike

Our Konrad knows all the most scenic paths, remote places and magnificent vantage points our area has to offer. And all its wonderful stories about mountains, trees, flowers and animals, too. Guests who follow him on his weekly discovery hike bring back a twinkle in their eyes, inspired by his great love for nature and our land. Which, by the way, is his secret for making even the most demanding tour an exciting success.

The philosophy of mountaineering

To the peak of happiness

High, higher… close to heaven. Above the daily grind and worldly things. The best days of all are those spent in the mountains. When we come back in the evening with tired legs and delighted hearts, feeling joy deep inside as we fall into bed. It’s all about the journey, and the many beautiful things along the way. Simply being outside, slowing down the pace of life and breathing in the moment. The mind expands with a sense of freedom, and the heart fills with a deep meaning that brings us closer to the essential.

Konrad Lamprecht, dazzling hiking guide

"In the mountains, I am happy. The chance to share this deep-seated happiness with others is nature’s most beautiful gift."

Summer.
A faceted alpine world

In summer, the mountains turn into a stage of incredible variety, offering many an opportunity for communion with nature and for exciting sports and leisure activities. We have plenty of tips that we love to share with our guests. For example, how about a walk with alpacas or a spot of forest bathing? For an adrenaline kick you can go rafting or paragliding, but if you prefer more classic sports, options include tennis, boules in our garden or – why not? – a game of minigolf. The choice is yours!
