Growing delight
My new pet project: the Gitschberg Kerner
My passion for quality wine has never been a secret. But my interest in winegrowing and winemaking may have been less well known. Biohotel Gitschberg has had its own little vineyard for over a year now. The plot is part of the Zöhlhof organic winery, high above the artists’ town of Klausen. Think 3,000 square metres of gravelly moraine soils, organically and sustainably cultivated in a wonderfully sunny location.
From pruning to harvesting to the work in the cellar, I do it all together with winemaker Wolfgang Unterfrauner. And creativity has expressed itself in many new and inspiring ways. Being so close to nature every step of the way does me a lot of good, and fills me with joy and pride.
Our first vintage, 2023, has now been poured into 1,026 stylish bottles – ready to delight us and the first Gitschberg guests. Unmistakably aromatic and versatile, this Eisacktal valley white wine is fresh and juicy, with an invigorating acidity and fruity notes of apple and white peach. I especially enjoy and recommend my Kerner as an aperitif and to accompany fine starters, as well as fish and light meat dishes.
CHEERS, to your health!
